Three Landmark Republican Immigration Accomplishments That Are Transforming Border Security

In just over a year back in the White House, President Trump and Republican lawmakers have delivered real, measurable results on immigration—results that Democrats could only talk about for years. No more empty promises. No more catch-and-release chaos. These are concrete policy wins that have driven illegal border crossings to historic lows, ramped up enforcement, and put America First. Here are the last three major accomplishments, with direct links to the bills and actions themselves.

1. The Laken Riley Act – Mandatory Detention for Criminal Illegal Aliens (Signed January 29, 2025) This groundbreaking legislation—the first standalone immigration bill signed into law in nearly two decades—requires ICE to detain any illegal immigrant charged with theft, burglary, shoplifting, or assault on law enforcement. No more releasing repeat offenders back onto American streets while they await court dates. It also empowers states to sue the federal government if Washington fails to enforce immigration laws.

Named after Laken Riley, the Georgia nursing student tragically murdered by an illegal immigrant who had been arrested multiple times but released, this bill sends a clear message: criminals who break our laws will not roam free. It has already strengthened interior enforcement and is a cornerstone of the Republican commitment to public safety.

2. The One Big Beautiful Bill Act – Historic Funding to Finish the Wall and Supercharge

Enforcement (Signed July 4, 2025) Republicans in Congress passed and President Trump signed this massive $170+ billion immigration enforcement package—the largest investment in border security in U.S. history. It allocates $46.5 billion specifically for completing and expanding the southern border wall (including “smart” technology), $45 billion to dramatically increase ICE detention capacity, and billions more for agents, technology, and operations.

The results speak for themselves: within months, DHS and CBP awarded $4.5 billion in new contracts to build hundreds of miles of barriers and surveillance systems. Illegal crossings plummeted, detention numbers soared to record highs, and the border is finally being secured with steel, concrete, and real resources—not rhetoric. This is the wall Republicans promised, fully funded and under construction.

3. Executive Order “Securing Our Borders” – Reinstatement of Remain in Mexico and End to Catch-and-Release (Signed January 20, 2025 – Day One) On his very first day back in office, President Trump signed this sweeping executive order that immediately reinstated the wildly successful Migrant Protection Protocols (Remain in Mexico), ended the Biden-era practice of releasing migrants into the interior, terminated the CBP One app appointments, and directed the military and federal agencies to support full border enforcement.

The impact was instant and dramatic: U.S. Border Patrol apprehensions dropped more than 90% year-over-year, releases into the country hit zero for months on end, and unaccompanied minors crossings reached record lows. By forcing asylum claims to be processed from Mexico and restoring consequences, this order turned the border from a revolving door into a real barrier—exactly as the Republican platform demands.

These three accomplishments aren’t abstract talking points—they are law, funding, and action that have already produced the safest, most secure border in decades. Illegal crossings are at 50-year lows, millions of criminal and non-criminal illegal aliens have been removed or self-deported, and American communities are safer.

This is what Republican leadership looks like: secure borders, rule of law, and policies that put American citizens first. The contrast with the previous administration’s open-border disaster could not be clearer. The work continues, but these three victories prove that when Republicans control the levers of power, America gets results.
